Mill Spring, NC - June 4, 2024 - Conquering the Ivan Tagle (ARG)-designed track to best a field of 32 competitors, Michael Murphy (USA) piloted Kaida CM to win Saturday night’s $120,000 St. Luke’s Hospital Grand Prix CSI 3* in Tryon Stadium. One of three double clears, Murphy and Kaida CM (Kennan x Indoctro) clinched first with a 37.27 second jump off time. Riding her own Cornwall BH (Unknown x Cambridge 8), the 2008 Holsteiner gelding, Amanda Derbyshire (GBR) put 39.24 seconds on the clock to claim reserve honors. Recording 44.02 seconds to round out the top three was Catherine Tyree Flores (USA) aboard her own Pikeur Lareen (Los Angeles x Cornet Obolensky), the 2015 Westphalian mare.

This win marked a turning point for Michael Murphy and Kaida CM in their new partnership. “I was really happy with her in the first round,” Murphy said of the 2015 Dutch Warmblood mare. “She’s a new horse, and this is my third horse show with her. I jumped her in the qualifier, but tonight was my first test with her. She handled everything really well, and I'm super happy with her.”

As the fourth to ride in the jump off, Murphy was able to study a few rounds before tackling the course. Crediting Kaida CM’s speed as part of the team’s success, Murphy noted that “she's naturally quick, and I just let her do her thing!”

Enjoying the final weeks of the Tryon Spring Series, Murphy’s team plan to return to North Carolina for the upcoming summer horse shows. “We’ve been here two weeks, and we've had a great couple of shows. My fiance, Lauren [Tyree] and I have been at almost every Grand Prix. We're really excited, and we're going to come back in July.”

Tanner Korotkin and King Z are Crowned Champions of $25,000 Buckley Fence Sunday Jumper Classic

June 2, 2024 - Tanner Korotkin (Wellington, FL) and Sandalwood Farms’ King Z dominated the $25,000 Buckley Fence Sunday Jumper Classic in Tryon Stadium, with two clear rounds and a jump off time of 34.66 seconds. Taking second with 37.37 seconds on the clock was Diego Bedoya Yanez (Magnolia, TX) with Baglioni (Spartacus x Cipriani), the 2014 Anglo-European Warmblood mare owned by NRG Farm LLC. Luis Pedro Biraben (Wellington, FL) rode his own 2016 Selle Français mare Georgina De Carles, co-owned with Carlos Alvarez Del Castillo, to third place with a time of 40.63 seconds.

Following his win, Tanner Korotkin commented on King Z’s (Kannan x Sympatica) skill and precision over fences. “He’s only nine, and extremely competitive. You really just need to stay out of his way and can almost guarantee a clear round,” he shared.

Korotkin relied on the 2015 Zangersheide gelding’s speed across the ground for the win. “He made the first round feel pretty easy – the time was tight, so his foot speed made that no issue. Going into the jump off, I knew Jad Dana had three horses in it, all being very fast. In that situation, knowing I’m on a fast horse as well, I tend to not watch what others do. I stick to my plan and go as fast as I feel my horse is comfortable with,” Korotkin recapped.

Going forward, Korotkin anticipates a fruitful partnership with the talented gelding. “King is an incredible horse”, he noted. “He’s already had many wins, placed in many FEI classes, and national Grand Prixs at only nine years old. My goal is pretty simple – keep trying to teach him and keep winning.”
