Mill Spring, NC - June 6, 2023 - At Tryon International Equestrian Center & Resort (Tryon International), Samuel Parot (CHI) and Chrystal Blue were the best of the best in the $146,000 Bobcat Grand Prix CSI 3* at Saturday Night Lights presented by Tryon Horse & Home. Parot and his own 2011 Oldenburg gelding (Chacco Blue x Calvaro F.C.) cleared the jump off course in 44.63 seconds to secure the win. Hunter Holloway (USA) and Eastern Jam, the 2009 Dutch Warmblood gelding (Lexicon x Monaco) owned by Hays Investment Corp., produced a faultless time of 44.77 seconds for reserve honors and the Leading Lady Award presented by Marthaler Jewelers. Rounding out the podium, Tomas Yofre (ARG) and Cardora, the Stellium Sport Horses LLC’s 2010 Holsteiner mare (Caretino 2 x Clearway), stopped the clock at 46.23 seconds.

With 27 entries challenging the first round of the course design by Ivan Tagle (ARG), Parot was one of nine Clear Rounds presented by Stuller Power Solutions that advanced to the jump off test. Parot stuck to his plan to produce the slickest possible ride for his horse, clinching the win.

“The first round was really good,” Parot recapped. “It was not easy, since there were not too many riders, but there were really good ones! It’s never easy to win.”

“My horse is not so fast [across the ground],” he acknowledged, “but I was thinking, ‘I’ll see the first two,’ and then I did my plan, and it was perfect!”

Roldolfo Medina was awarded Groom’s Award presented by The Defender from Land Rover Asheville for his care and dedication to Chrystal Blue, alongside Angie Williams, Land Rover Asheville Master Sales Consultant, and Tryon International’s Drew Page.

Chrystal Blue’s most recent outing was the CSIO 5* in Mexico, Parot reported, where he claimed third. Next up, “the idea is to go to the Pan American Games and try to win the medal!”

As the highest placing female rider in the Grand Prix, Hunter Holloway was awarded the Leading Lady Award presented by Marthaler Jewelers, alongside Matt, Tonya, Andy, and Alexia Marthaler.

In just a year of partnership, the duo are finding their stride in venues across the world, and Parot was thrilled to continue that trend at Tryon. “The horse is really a top horse,” Parot concluded. “I’m really happy with him.”

Danieli, the 2011 gelding, seamlessly tackled the Archer “Skip” Bailey-designed course. Janouskovec said of her mount, “He is the best horse you’d ever want. There is no prep, no lunge, no ride, no nothing! He just comes to the horse show, you go in the ring and you show, and he wins!”

Janouskovec commented that the derby course was “wild! When we walked, it was like a handy course from the beginning.”

The course did not prove to be a challenge for Danieli. “He handles everything just fine. Nothing ever fazes him, the jumps, the people, nothing. He loves to do this stuff. The bigger the field, the better he goes!”

The winning combo is a new pairing, Fernando Larrazabal detailed. “I just started riding her around three months ago, so it's kind of a new partnership for me. I'm very excited about the future, because she is a winner.” He elaborated, “She gets in the ring and just wants to do the job. To be honest, you just need to not get in her way and let her do her job, because she's amazing.”

Slotted to go early in the jump off, Fernando Larrazabal had to set a time that couldn’t be beat, but didn’t want to go “too crazy,” he explained:

“Going into the jump off, I was a little bit early in the order of go, and there were plenty after me. But, I know she's very quick: she's an ultra fast horse. So, you know, I had my plan. I didn't want to get too crazy, because I know she is very quick.

“I played my part, she did an amazing job, and I was crossing my fingers for the rest, because it's difficult to win here. But it went my way today, so I'm very happy,” he emphasized. “I want to thank her owner, Driss [Ngadi], for letting me ride this mare and trusting me with her.”

Fernando Larrazabal’s entire family is currently based at Tryon International, and he concluded that both the horse and human contingents of his camp are happy to be at the venue. “We like it here! It's very quiet, and the grounds are amazing. It's so comfortable to bring my family here. My wife and my kids are very, very happy to be here.”
