From Driving to Dressage: Brittany Lincoln-Anders Reflects on her New Mount, Montana

Local professional Brittany Lincoln-Anders only recently began a partnership with the 2017 Dutch Harness Horse Montana after his owner, Troylyn Ball, felt that the gelding was suited better for a dressage career than a driving career. The gelding arrived at her farm on St. Patrick’s day and since then, Troy has supported him in his new dressage career.

Brittany planned to earn qualifying scores for her own horse at Tryon Summer Dressage 3 & 4 and brought Montana along, who ended up also earning a ticket to regionals. For his first time experiencing a show without driving blinders, his energy was electric, but Brittany was able to channel this energy into fabulous performances.

She remarked, “I think the judges saw his quality come through, and his heart, so it was amazing.” The judges undoubtedly saw his quality as noted in the 9.0 received for a working canter as well as an overall 8.0 for quality of gaits. Brittany fondly describes Montana as “that kind of class clown that can then go in the ring, and be very serious.” Her faith in the gelding’s success is founded on their partnership, and with this ever-strengthening bond Brittany believes in his capability as a Grand Prix horse.
