Mill Spring, NC – July 6, 2024 – In celebration of Tryon International’s ten year anniversary, the $120,000 Camp Electric Co. Grand Prix CSI 3* kicked off with parachute jumpers from Carolina Skydivers landing in Tryon Stadium, and concluded with a dazzling drone show. In between anniversary festivities, Samuel Parot (CHI) and David Guetta (Zento x Vigaro) continued their show ring dominance by securing a Grand Prix win for the second week in a row, completing the course in a time of 34.48 seconds. Taking second on the Alan Wade (IRL) course on a time of 36.40 seconds was Kelli Cruciotti VanderVeen (USA) and Gideon (Super Trooper De Ness x Corland), the 2014 Zangersheide gelding owned by Serenity Farms. Placing third on the podium out of 24 trips, Ashlee Bond (ISR) and her own Donatello 141 (Diarado x Lamoureux I), the 2011 Westphalian gelding, finished in 35.28 seconds with a single rail down over the short course.

As the last rider to see the previous week’s Grand Prix jump off track and the first to go on Saturday evening, Parot proved that he and his 2008 Dutch Warmblood gelding could succeed at any position in order of go.

“The jump off was really difficult,” Parot admitted. “Jump two, and the last fence, were special. I went first [in the jump off], and my plan went perfectly.”

Victoria Colvin and Dicoblue PS Shine in $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby presented by Equiline

July 5, 2024 – Closing out Friday’s competition in Tryon Stadium, Victoria Colvin (USA) and Dicoblue PS (Diarado’s Boy x Stutbuch 1 Chactine) shone in the $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby presented by Equiline, with a combined score of 361 points. Just behind the winners on a total score of 359 points, Liza Boyd (USA) and Crooner Brimbelles Z (Windows VH Costersveld x Rare Des Brimbelles Z), the 2015 Zangershiede gelding, claimed second on the podium out of 10 trips. Kelli Cruciotti Vanderveen (USA) and Ratino KN Ter Beuken (Gino H x Extreme From The Breeder D 09), the 2017 Belgian Warmblood gelding, scored 352 total points over the Andy Christiansen (Royal Palm Beach, FL) track.

With two mounts in the derby, Victoria Colvin claimed both first and fifth place Friday afternoon, also touring the track with her second ride of the day, Southland (Obos Quality x Gildawn Crest). Colvin explained both the challenges and merits of her first round performance aboard Dicoblue PS. “The first rounds for both [horses] went well. They each had a little rub. The horse who won, Dicoblue, hit the split rail a little bit behind, but he jumped the rest of it beautifully.”

Knowing Liza Boyd was holding first place, Colvin knew that she needed to put her attention towards the handy portion of the course with the 2014 Oldenburg gelding. “I wanted to jump the smaller side of the bending eight [strides], because it was a bit forward. I was a little nervous to stay out and jump the big one to get up eight strides – but in the rest of it, I was just trying to be as handy as possible,” Colvin stated.

Upon her win, Colvin extended thanks to owner Isabelle Castellanos, who will be competing with Dicoblue PS in the junior hunters. With plans to spend one more week at Tryon International, Colvin concluded, “I haven't been [to Tryon] in three years, but it's lovely. I do love it here, and I always have. I showed here when it first opened!”
