Mill Spring, NC – June 8, 2024 – Continuing to capitalize on multiple wins and top placings in Tryon Stadium, Amanda Derbyshire (GBR) saw the top of the podium in the $120,000 Two Trees Distilling Co. Grand Prix CSI 3* to close out the The Tryon Spring Series presented by Stuller Power Solutions. Teaming up with her own Cornwall BH (Con Air x Cambridge 8), Derbyshire conquered the Oscar Soberon (USA) course in 37.74 seconds. Just behind the winning pair, marking a time of 38.16 seconds, was Kristen VanderVeen and Bull Run’s Hesed (Christian 25 x Lord Z), the 2014 Oldenburg gelding owned by Bull Run Jumpers Inc. Finishing out the top three with 38.31 seconds on the clock was Capt. Brian Cournane (USA) and his own Armik (Armitage 2 x Justinian XX), the 2009 Oldenburg gelding.

As the third of four to attempt Saturday’s short track, Amanda Derbyshire acknowledged the challenge that her fellow jump off riders posed. “The jump off was fast!” She noted. “I actually watched Kristen [VanderVeen] go, and I was like, ‘I don't want to be a defeatist, but I don't know if I can get that time.’”

Despite the stiff competition, Derbyshire laid out the fastest time of the night, winning by a margin of .42 seconds with the 2008 Holsteiner gelding. “Cornwall has turned out to be a very fast horse, and he's careful. He's got plenty of experience, and that always helps going in the jump off,” she said of her equine teammate of nine years. “I've got an incredible team around me, an incredible team of horses right now, and a lot of support. I’m grateful to be here!”

Alongside the veteran Cornwall BH, Derbyshire also challenged the Grand Prix with Balia Silvia, finishing ninth with the Pine Hollow Farm mare. “I decided to put a newer, greener horse in as my second Grand Prix horse, and she actually jumped fabulous tonight,” Derbyshire recapped. “We had one down, so as much as I was happy for Cornwall to be clear, I was pretty happy with the greener horse who we’re bringing along.”

This is now where we're based out of, so it's always nice to do well where you're based!” Derbyshire concluded.

Flo Phillips was awarded the Groom’s Award presented by Ariat for her care and dedication to Cornwall BH, alongside Tryon International’s Drew Page.
