Marking 40.14 seconds in the jump off, Florian Ferry (Wiliston, SC) collected reserve honors with Chaccolady (Chacco Blue x Landlady), Agathe Heurteux’s 2010 Hanoverian mare. Claire Connaghan (Southern Pines, NC) and her own 2015 warmblood gelding Figment (Quincy Car x Filigree), stopped jump off timers at 38.88 seconds, incurring four jumping faults, to put them in third place.

Call Me Maybe has been in and out of Maryann Charles’ life since 2015, but the team has recently forged a successful partnership in the show arena.

“She’s just a joy,” Charles said of the 2008 Oldenburg mare. Charles put in the work to build a strong partnership with Call Me Maybe and shared that “she was worth the effort, because she’s got talent and she doesn’t really want to knock the jumps down!”

The course designed by Archer “Skip” Bailey was well suited for Charles and Call Me Maybe in the start of their show season. “It was big enough for us at this particular stage in the beginning of the year,” Charles shared. “It was nice because it was gallop-y, and there were some turns, and there were some options.”

Charles and Call Me Maybe will return to competition at Tryon International for Welcome 3 and 4. “She really is my horse of a lifetime,” Charles concluded. “We’ll keep doing it as long as the two of us can keep moving!”
