October 5, 2023 - Mill Spring, NC - Competing against fifty-one preliminary entries, Kristen Vanderveen (USA) aboard Bull Run's Jireh (Uriko x Colman) dominated the jump off with a time of 35.71 seconds $39,000 ProElite Welcome Stake CSI 2*. Claiming reserve honors, marking 36.87 seconds in the jump off, was Aaron Vale (USA) with I.adermie R 4 (Den Ham Blue R x Namelus R), the 2013 Dutch Warmblood mare owned Thinks Like A Horse. A familiar face at Tryon International, Vanderveen noted the 2014 Holsteiner gelding owned by Bull Run Jumpers Inc is “a freak athlete. He has a great attitude and is a ham in the barn.”

Tryon Fall 3 marks the gelding’s return to the show arena after some time off. “I was so pleased with him today. We took a nice break this summer so we’d come out strong for the fall. This is his first week showing again – he’s quite fresh and stayed focused, so I was really pleased with his maturity,” Vanderveen detailed.

With two horses going clear in the preliminary round, Vanderveen shared that her jump off with Bull Run’s Jireh went “not as planned! My plan was to go quiet and calm and get ready for the Grand Prix. The first horse I had [in the jump off] is a brand new horse to me, and I made some mistakes at the end. I was like, “‘well, I would like to win, so we'll just go fast!’” Vanderveen did just that with Bull Run’s Jireh, winning the class by 1.16 seconds on the course designed by Nick Granat.

With horse show and rodeo competition continuing this week at Tryon International, Vanderveen is looking forward the rest of the Fall show series. “Fall is the best here!” she commented. “The weather is awesome, and everybody's happy to be here. We’ve got the rodeo this week too, so we're excited!”

Friday morning’s derby course had no shortage of challenges for both horse and rider, but Bugatti tackled it with characteristic ease. “The course was really good. We had some of those harder turns, and there were long, hard outside bending lines up to the big options,” Cumming noted of the Seth Clayton (Lakeville, MN)-designed course.
