Grace Weil for Tryon International
Tryon International kicked off their spring in the sandbox with the first national dressage show of the season, Tryon Spring Dressage 1. Two arenas remained in full throttle from Friday to Sunday (April 19-21), all levels judged by four star judges Kristi Wysocki and Agnes Billington. Classes ranging from Grand Prix to FEI and national freestyles, and even a Pas de Deux, made for an exciting weekend for riders and spectators.
Adult Amateurs and Young Riders take the Prix St Georges by Storm
One of the weekend’s largest classes, the Prix St Georges, was packed with adult amateur and open riders. Kimberly Clark and her gelding Ferentio (Fürstenball OLD x Laurentio 3) competed in the Sunday PSG class, but secured the division’s highest score across the weekend. The pair earned two 8s, one on an extended canter and one on a shoulder in.
Young Rider Keelin Craige and Molly Ryan’s gelding Capstone’s Oh Henry (Empires Power x Arose for Erma) strutted around the PSG, securing the top JR/YR spot in the FEI division.
Region II Professionals Producing Exceptional Results, Rain or Shine
Virginia based professional Luke McLaughlin piloted Fleurie GP (Freestyle x Santano), a nine-year-old Hanoverian mare owned by Caitlin Oikemus, holding a five percent lead in 4-1 for the weekend with a score of 70.263%.
Local professional Justine Wilson and mount Siete de Susaeta (Doblon TR x Oficial XXIX), a PRE stallion owned by Nena Lisa LLC, paid no mind to the dreary weather and rode their way to the overall top placing in the Prix St Georges.
Wilson’s success continued throughout the weekend in the Four and Five-year-old Mares class, where she and Purdy, a four-year-old mare out of Lennox U.S. x Florencio 2, earned the show’s high point. They secured an 81.9% with the highest mark appointed for the mare’s canter (8.5).
