September 21, 2024 – Mill Spring, NC – Jacqueline Ruyle (Navasota, TX) kicked off the Tryon Fall Series presented by Coca-Cola with style, collecting a win in the $20,000 Cleghorn Golf & Sports Club Grand Prix with equine teammate Cyramo Z (Clarimo x Cyprus). Clocking in a double clear effort with her mare, Ruyle clinched the Grand Prix win on a jump off time of 37.87 seconds. Fernando Cardenas (New Hill, NC), who held the lead until Ruyle’s surge to the top, recorded a time of 39.75 seconds to claim reserve honors with Cool Ray NA, the 2014 North American Warmblood stallion owned by B&C LLC. Taking the third podium spot with 41.75 seconds on the timers, Brittni Raflowitz (Palm City, FL) rode Semilly F (Copyright C x Brisa De Ibio), the 2011 Spanish Sport Horse mare, for Ashlee Bond Show Jumping.

Ending her Saturday night in a big way, Jacqueline Ruyle explained that this win with her 2011 Zangersheide mare marks her return to the show arena. “I haven't shown for about three months, and that's the longest break I've taken in a while,” Ruyle shared. “I'm just so happy to be back!”

Taking advantage of Cyramo Z’s footspeed, Ruyle made quick work of Joseph Carnicom’s jump off track. “Cyramo Z is so fast, and I pretty much had my foot on the gas the whole way,” Ruyle said to describe her jump off strategy.

Ruyle and Cyramo Z set the pace early on in their jump off round, and kept the momentum rolling to earn their Grand Prix win. “I was contemplating doing ten or eleven [strides] at the first line, and I found the second jump so forward that I thought the ten strides would be there. I just had my foot on the gas the whole way, and it was a fast round.”

Show jumping fans can expect to see Jacqueline Ruyle and her team during the upcoming weeks of the Tryon Fall Series presented by Coca-Cola, as the Texas-based rider plans to compete throughout the full six weeks of competition. “I absolutely love Tryon! I can basically live here in the summer, fall, and spring, and they've done so many improvements,” Ruyle concluded.

Taylor Morris was awarded the Groom’s Award presented by Champion Shavings for her care and dedication to Cyramo Z, alongside Tryon International’s Drew Page.

$5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby Winners: John Angus and Clip De Riverland

September 21, 2024 – Touring the Joseph Carnicom-designed course on Saturday morning, John Angus (Mooresboro, NC) teamed up with Clip De Riverland (L’arc De Triomphe x Toscane De Riverland), owned by Sigma Stables LLC, to win the $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby presented by AP Hassinger. Brooke Farfone (Johns Island, SC) rode Scott's Family Farms’ 2014 Hanoverian gelding Testify (Cassini II x Valencia T) to second, earning matching scores of 78 across both rounds to take second on 156 total points. A local to the Tryon area, winner John Angus detailed his short yet fruitful partnership with Clip De Riverland. “I got him from a dear friend and idol, Luis Sabino. He came to us about three or four months ago, and it hasn't been very long that I've been riding him.”

Pleased with the 2012 Selle Français gelding’s progress in the hunter ring, Angus shared that “at first he was a little quirky, but he’s started to smooth out – all the edges have turned into round edges!”

Scoring a commanding 159 points for the derby win, Clip De Riverland’s natural scope was key to the pair’ success. “I felt like the only thing I didn’t have to worry about today was having a rail,” Angus considered, “because he would be at least a foot or two over every fence. All I had to do was work on the rideability and make sure he was smooth, clear, and quiet.”
