In Loving Memory: Sally Dunn

Team Tryon member from the venue’s earliest days, and beloved horse show secretary Sally R. Dunn, age 73, of Mill Spring, NC, formerly of Wellington, FL, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills. Horse shows and the equestrian community were the center of her life, and Sally was a critical part of Tryon International’s success.

“We will always be thankful for Sally’s contributions here and for her life with us,” said Sharon Decker, Tryon Equestrian Partners Carolinas President. “After her retirement, Sally stayed closely connected to our team, continuing to enjoy her beloved horse show family’s presence. While she requested no services be held, we will plan a remembrance for her at our July 1st ‘Saturday Night Lights’ event and invite all her connections to attend if able.”

A fixture of the Team Tryon family, Sally will be remembered as being strong and independent, witty and often sarcastic, as well as tough and stubborn. There is very little photographic evidence of her time at Tryon, simply because she refused to be captured! Sally’s sense of humor is well-known, and respect for her expertise in the industry is nationwide. Highly admired and respected by her peers, Sally was dubbed “Horse Show Google” for her depth of knowledge.

Sally left her mark on this world by taking people under her wing and guiding them through anything they encountered or needed help with. When she wasn’t immersed in horse shows, Sally explored her artistic side through crafting, knitting and drawing her horse heads. She also loved to bake, birdwatch, and do puzzles.

A native of Grahamsville, NY, Sally was the daughter of the late Willis and Phyllis Ryan. In addition to her parents, Sally was predeceased by her beloved friend, Jerry Dunn, and two brothers, Michael Charles Ryan, and Will Ryan.

Sally is survived by one daughter, Amy C. Jones (Ed) of Claryville, NY, close and dear friend, Linda, two sisters, Patricia "Patty" Gates, and Mary Davis both of New York, one brother, Jim Ryan (Tammy) of Washington State, two grandchildren, Morgan, and Mason Wynkoop, two great grandchildren, Amelia, and Maverick Mergendahl, and many nieces, and nephews.

In accordance with Sally's wishes, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Catskill Animal Rescue; 263 Old Monticello Rd. Ferndale, NY 12734, or a charity of your choice.
